Ski holidays Snow skiing is a type of sport where skis are used as primary equipments. Skiing can be categorized into two types. Nordic skiing is formed from skiing as performed in Scandinavia. In this, the bindings are connected at the toes of the boots and not at the heels. Alpine skiing is formed from skiing as performed by the Alps. In this, the bindings are connected at the toes and heels of the boots. Alpine skiing has five different difficulties of hills as follows – Green circles, Blue squares, Black diamonds, Double Black diamonds and EX terrain. Green circles are the simplest. They have a shallow slope and no bumps on the trail. Blue squares have some level of difficulty. The easy blues are similar to the green circles. The challenging blues may have some bumps. Black diamonds has steep terrains and hurdles like rocks or trees. A form of this type is called Glade where the ski path is through trees. Double Black diamonds have unmarked obstacles and has to be accessed by hiking to the hill’s summit. EX terrain may consist of cliffs and there is a risk of death while doing this. Alpine freestyle is a type of skiing that can be called acrobatics on skis. During the 1970s, a style was developed called Hotdogging. In the current style, skiers use jumps also called kickers or rails to do tricks. In the United States, chairlifts are not practical for touring. So, skiers generally use Nordic style equipment that is suitable for skiing up hill. Cross country skiing can be freestyle or classic. In the freestyle version, any technique that is human powered and on skis is allowed. In the classic version, skating techniques are not permitted. Kite skiing and para skiing is done when a pull is affected by a parasail, kite or hang glider. Nordic jumping is also called ski jumping and ski flying. This is a competition where skiers slide down a ramp and try to move maximum ahead before landing on the ground. For this the Nordic style skis are used. Nordic skiing is the most popular form of skiing. This does not need a special ski area and can be done in a local park or a snowy street. Randonnee skiing means skiing in unmarked or unpatrolled regions in the backcountry or in the ski resort’s boundaries. Skiing is performed well if the following tips are adhered to. The weight and balance is shifted fully on the gliding ski. The bodyweight is to be shifted effectively from ski to ski. The glide phase is to be enhanced while skiing. A good forward lean is very useful. When this is achieved, momentum is generated down the trail and the result is a free glide. For a proper forward lean, the skier must stand on both feet, flex the knees and flex the ankles till the knees are above the toes when he looks downward. The foot must be kept in a flat position. Due to this there is the maximum possible force on the snow. Even while climbing a hill, the poling motions must be finished.
